In this book we'll consider the most common sequence: 1.d4 followed by 2.e3 and then 3.Bd3 and 4.f4 (or 3.f4 and 4.Bd3). But the Stonewall has materialized in quite a variety of sequences, including 1.f4 in the hands of Bent Larsen, Gideon Stahlberg and Harry Bird, or even 1.Nf3.
